During her time at the Social Security Administration (SSA), the country’s largest and most successful agency, Byrd established herself as a competent and reliable source of information, assisting a network of financial services professionals, human resources specialists and others with her insight and knowledge.
As a claims representative, she met face-to- face with SSA constituents, helping them to secure retirement benefits. She was a source of comfort to many bereaved clients as they applied for survivor’s benefits following the loss of a loved one. And she was highly sought by clients and colleagues for her vast knowledge in disability and Medicare.
As the Public Information Officer for SSA, Byrd carried the agency’s message to thousands in Eastern Missouri. She became the public “face” of the agency, and developed a long list of partnerships in the private and public sectors.
